ブキティマ自然保護区 Timah Nature Reserve

Bukit Timah Nature Reserveは，シンガポールで数少ない熱帯雨林の原生林が残されていて，シンガポールの生物種の約40％に相当する種類がここで確認されているという，シンガポールの生物多様性にとって貴重な場所である。週末に訪れるととても多くの人で賑わっているのに驚いた。東京の高尾山のようだ。

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is a valuable place for Singapore's biodiversity, remaining primeval tropical forest. About 40% of Singapore's flora and fauna are able to be seen here. I was surprised to see so many people when visiting on the weekend. It looks like Mt. Takao in Tokyo, Japan.

Visitor center

野生のトラはかつてシンガポールで生息していて，特にChoa Chu KangやBukit Timah, Pulau Ubinに見られた。しかし，19世紀にブキティマの中心地でトラが暴れたことをきっかけに政府が懸賞金をかけてトラの捕殺を奨励した。その結果，トラの数は減少し，ついに見られなくなってしまったとのことである。

Wild tigers were once common in Singapore, especially in Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Timah and Pulau Ubin. However, in the 19th century, after the tigers were rampant in the center of Bukit Timah, the government encouraged the killing of tigers with a reward. As a result, the number of tigers has decreased and has finally disappeared.

これまでに訪れた場所とは森林の様子が異なる感じがする。樹高が高く，50m近くに達するものも見られる。中間層も植物の密度が高い。
