Jelutong ; Dyera costulata

 A deciduous tree, which sheds its leaves often between June and August in Singapore.It can grow to over 60m tall in natural setting

 Native  to Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia.

キョウチクトウ科の落葉樹で，高さ30〜60mまで成長する樹木

落葉期は主に6月から8月

原産地はマレー半島，タイ，ラオス，ベトナム，カンボジア，インドネシアなど東南アジで広く見られる。

木材として利用されるほか，幹から天然ゴムの成分が得られることか，かつてはチューインガムの原料としても利用されていた。現在はほとんどが合成ゴムに置き換わっている。写真はシンガポール植物園で撮影。とても幹が真っすぐで樹高が高いのがとても印象的。

Jeltuong is utilized for lumber, and the tree yields a natural latex which was used for chewing gum.  However, nearly all gum is made from sythetic rubber.

I met this tree in the rain forest tour in the Botanic Garden Singapore last week. 

It was amazing that it was extremely tall and the trunk was so straight.
